Almost 400 year 10 and 11 students came to our Medical Physics event. Each day
included 14 hands-on Workshops run thanks to clinical scientists/other
professionals from the QE and Selly Oak NHS hospitals, paramedics, equipment
suppliers, Aston university and others. Prof Stuart Green gave an amazing key
note talk highlighting how important Physics is in the delivery of 21st Century
diagnostic techniques.
The students had a go at using defibulators,
endoscopes, pulse oximeters, ultrasound, respiratory equipment, optical kit,
radiation protection suits and X-rays to see through a Kinder surprise chocolate
egg! A show of hands at the beginning and end of the day evidenced how many more
were consider A-level Physics as a result of this action-packed day.
