Many thanks to Jenny Davies (Physics Teacher, Hillcrest School) for co-presenting on both days. Jenny played a huge part in making the days a success! Looking forward to working with you again in the future!

this was an excellent day, it was well organised
the physics factory is a super facility I didn't realise it was so close and will certainly use it again

I have attended a few times before with students from our school, they enjoy the practical work and different methods of lesson delivery
This was an excellent day which enabled students to have a detailed idea of what they need to do to reach A/A* grades

The day was very helpful for the students to understand the importance of IAAs and how to obtain the top grades
Key ideas were delivered in bitesize sessions which helped students understand each concept
I learnt new ways of teaching and marking IAAs

teacher from Harborne Hill School said...

It is about time a day like this was organised, I feel that my approach to IAAs has been like groping in the dark
I am now much clearer in understanding what is required from the students and how I can guide them towards higher grades
The physics factory is good!

The aim of the IAA training day was as a result of an action group set up between the schools in the Oaks Collegiate. The aim was two fold. Firstly to try to boost students results in Edexcel IAA's especially students on the boarderline between A and B grades. This should help the students reach the highest level of attainment and increase the number of A*/A grades in science. Secondly to act as a model for teaching staff to emulate with their own students back at school to raise overall performance in these internal assessments. The schools involved were Hillcrest, Bartley Green, Frankley, Dame Elizabeth Cadbury, Bournville, Lordswood Boys, Selly Park, Harbourne Hill and STACS. Each school nominated boarderline students to attend. Organising the event was made much easier by the enthusiasm and hard work of the Physics factory team and BASS. Phil organised the teaching side of the day and delivered it along side Jenny Davis. The transport was organised and funded by the Oaks via Dave Beards and Tonia. Ian Richardson from edexcel met with us to add his thoughts to ensure that we hit the highest bands of attainment. A big thanks to all those involved for making the days a big success. Comments from staff and students where very positive and I feel that this could act as a model that could be used again in future. Excellent!

Hi Phil, I really thought the two days were a great success, the comments are excellent and show how useful people found it. The students from Hillcrest all achieved A*s!!!! I had a fantastic time, thanks for letting me get involved, it was great. I'd love to come and help out again anytime.
