Al-Hijrah School - Feb 13
'This week and last week, Al-Hijrah School year 11 girls and boys respectively visited the Physics Factory for a day's master class on Radioactivity. As well as demonstrating the properties of nuclear radiation, the day included modelling Beqerel's discovery, demonstrating random processes using pop corn and 'skittles', modelling ionisation and penetration as radiation travels through matter, modelling half-lives using dice and much more. The final session of the day was dedicated to 'Fun with Physics', involving the hoverboard, invisible test tubes, mixing light, separating white light into its colours and viewing the emission spectra of Hydrogen. One student remarked at the end that they couldn't believe how fast the day had gone and how much they'd learnt.'
